Our Philosophy

Philosophy Statement

YPHLC provides exceptional, educational childcare. We are not your typical childcare center; we
pride ourselves on our implementation of the Creative Curriculum, which begins preparing your
child for Kindergarten and beyond, as early as six weeks of age. Education and caring for children
are our passions, and we enjoy it every step of the way.
We are vested in the foundation of Jean Piaget. He theorized children learn best when interacting
with their environment:
  • Children learn best through constructive, purposeful play
  •  Encourages child-initiated free-choice, supported by a variety of equipment
  •  By handling many different materials, children learn to observe, compare, sort, and sequence
  • Children construct knowledge through action. Children’s curiosity about the world around them drives their learning
  • Children seek and process new information based on what they already know (assimilation)
  •  Children modify their thinking in order to make sense of new information and experiences (accommodation)
  •  He describes learning as a dynamic process with several stages
o Sensorimotor (Birth-2 yrs)- learning takes place via the senses
o Pre-operational (approx. 2-5 yrs)- children begin to notice properties of objects as they explore
